Why I keep a two-line diary about this

Something I have been sitting with: Why I keep a two-line diary about this Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

I have avoided asking about this for six weeks out of pure embarrassment.

I am not looking for reassurance particularly. I am looking for somebody to say either that they had exactly this, or that they did not, because both would help.

This started at the same time as two other things, which is why I cannot attribute it to anything with any confidence.

My pharmacist has been helpful and my question has now outgrown what she can answer at a counter, so I am asking here while I wait for an appointment.

Yes, two. I know how that reads written down, and it is the number, so it is going in the title where people can see it.

Thanks in advance. Even a one-line "yes, me too" would help more than you would think.

Unglamorous and universal, and I am glad this circle says so out loud, because I spent six weeks too embarrassed to ask about mine.

Reading Leni, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

Coming back to close the loop: settled, manageable, no longer something I think about. It genuinely does get less interesting.

Well said, and thank you for taking the time over it.

Holding a boundary: we do not swap remedies in this circle as though they were prescriptions. Describing what happened to you is welcome; telling somebody what to take is not.

Somebody here described this as the least discussed and most common part of the whole business, and my experience matches that exactly.

Mine improved when I stopped ignoring it. That sounds glib and it is literal — I had been putting it off for hours at a time and that was making it worse.

Gently disagreeing with Poppy, or rather adding the other half of it.

My honest report is that mine took about three months to find a stable pattern and has been fine ever since. Three months felt very long at the time.

I tried four things at once and had no idea which helped, then took them all away and reintroduced them one at a time. It took six weeks and I finally knew.

The thing nobody says is how much mental space this takes up. It is not just physically uncomfortable, it is on your mind constantly, and that is worth naming.

No advice, just company. Here if it helps.

I want to name that an account of something resolving and an account of something that did not are equally welcome here. A page carrying only the first kind would be no use to the person reading it at two in the morning.

I had already had a complicated gut before any of this and I would say the general advice mostly did not fit me. Bringing it to somebody who knew my history was what worked.
