Six months of shedding then it stopped — putting it in its own thread so it does not get lost in the check-in.

Something is going on with my body and I would like to know whether it is ordinary.

What I cannot tell is whether this is the ordinary tax or the sort of thing that needs somebody today, and that distinction is the whole of my question.

It is not severe. It is relentless, which turns out to be a different problem, and one I have found much harder to describe to anybody.

I would like to hear timescales more than remedies. Knowing how long other people's lasted would turn this from an open-ended thing into a bounded one.

Putting the figure in the title felt slightly dramatic, and then I counted, and six months is simply what it is.

Thank you for reading something this unglamorous. Any experience welcome, and timescales especially.

The thing that helped was a photograph at the start, which I hated taking and which meant I could see the regrowth six months later rather than guessing.

I want to name that an account of something resolving and an account of something that did not are equally welcome here. A page carrying only the first kind would be no use to the person reading it at two in the morning.

Mine has thinned and stayed thinner, and I have made my peace with that, and I would not want somebody to read only the full-recovery accounts.

What I found hardest was other people not seeing it. It was enormous to me and invisible to everybody else, which made it lonely.

I would say ask for the bloods rather than assuming. Mine turned out to have a straightforward and fixable component and I would not have known.

My hairdresser was more reassuring than any clinician. She had seen it many times, said so plainly, and told me what she expected over the next six months.

Something I read here that steadied me: shedding is often a response to a change several months earlier rather than to what is happening this week.

I stopped washing it less, which I had been doing on the theory it would help, and it made absolutely no difference except that my hair was greasy.

I wore it up for six months and nobody noticed anything, which I found simultaneously comforting and slightly annoying.

I found the counting worse than the shedding. Once I stopped looking at the plughole every morning the whole thing became much smaller.
