Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: How I talk about this in front of my daughter

The logistics of this are defeating me more than the medicine is.

My household has adjusted to about half of this and the other half is causing small daily friction that I have not known how to raise.

I have a specific situation coming up and I would like to plan for it properly rather than improvising on the day, which is what I did last time.

The arrangements are the hard bit for me. Nothing medical has been difficult; the organising has been relentless.

Thank you. This circle has solved four practical problems for me already and I am hoping for a fifth.

My partner took over the evening cooking for two months during the worst of it, and asking for that was harder than it should have been.

What I did not anticipate was how much of parenting is snacking alongside somebody, and how strange that felt when I did not want to.

Facilitator note: this is a logistics thread rather than a clinical one, which is a relief, and I would still rather nobody offered instructions.

What Wren described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

The school run and the evening are where my energy dips, and reorganising the week around that was more effective than anything else I tried.

Nemone has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

Somebody in this circle said that children notice how you talk about food more than what you eat, and I have thought about that constantly since.

I batch cook on a Sunday and it has been the single most useful habit. On the days I have nothing, there is something.

What I found hardest was the smell of cooking during the first two months. I was making food I could not be in the room with.

My eldest asked me directly what I was doing and I gave a short, honest, boring answer, and it has never come up again.

Building on what Orph wrote rather than answering the original question.

I have found that eating something at four in the afternoon means I can sit at the table at six and be present rather than negotiating.

I would have written the same thing a year ago, word for word.

No advice, just company. Here if it helps.

Oskar — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

I have deliberately kept family meals unchanged. Same food, same time, same table, and my portion is my business.
