A question rather than an update: I paused for two months and it was the right call

I have a letter in front of me and I do not know what it actually says.

I am asking here rather than anywhere else because nobody on this site is selling anything, which matters more than usual on this subject.

The arithmetic has changed and I need to decide something in the next month, and I would rather decide it with information than in a panic.

Two months is the honest figure, taken from the two-line diary I keep rather than from memory, and memory had it lower.

Any experience welcome, including the ones that did not work out. I would rather know what I am walking into.

My honest position is that this is expensive and I have chosen it, and I do not need anybody to reassure me about that.

What I found is that the cheapest route was not the most reliable, and I paid slightly more for something that did not run out.

Stepping in to say that the arithmetic people post here is genuinely useful and is also their arithmetic. Yours will have different lines in it and that is the point of asking.

Something I got right was deciding in advance what I would do if the cost rose, so that I was not deciding it in a difficult week.

What I would say is have the cost conversation. Mine produced two alternatives and neither had been mentioned unprompted.

I keep a small buffer specifically for this so that a bad month does not force a decision I would not otherwise make.

Something practical: I worked out the annual figure rather than the monthly one, because monthly made it look manageable in a way that hid the total.

What it displaced in my budget was the honest question, and answering it properly took me an evening and was worth doing.

Otto — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

I paused for two months when things got tight and then restarted, and that is a completely ordinary thing to have done.

Building on what Otto wrote rather than answering the original question.

The pharmacy price varied more than I expected between places, and one phone call round three of them saved me a meaningful amount.

I stopped for cost reasons once and I want to say plainly that stopping for money is a legitimate reason and not a failure.

The thing nobody mentions is the ancillary costs, which in my case added up to more over a year than I had allowed for.
