Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: Do you start from the bottom again

Writing this partly to ask and partly because writing it down usually tells me what I think.

The practical side has settled and the rest of it has not, and I would like to hear how other people at this stage handled the part that is not practical.

My prescriber has been fine, genuinely. The problem is that I get nine minutes twice a year and there is no version of nine minutes that covers a whole stage of this.

My honest position is that I do not know whether to change something or wait, and I have been going round that question for three weeks without getting anywhere.

Not looking for a plan. Just company, and whatever anybody found at the same stage.

The thing I would say is that a break is information. Mine told me a great deal about which changes had been the medication and which had become mine.

Restarting after a cost break here. The situation changed, I went back, and nobody at the surgery treated it as anything other than routine.

I kept everything from the first time and it made the restart conversation extremely short. The notes were worth more than I would have guessed.

I want to name the thing this circle does when somebody says they have stopped: it treats it as ordinary. That is not automatic anywhere else and it is worth saying out loud here.

Here, reading, and glad you posted.

Benedikt said something I want to sit with for a second.

What I got wrong the first time was doing it alone. The restart had a circle, a buddy and a proper conversation attached, and it went completely differently.

Building on what Zora wrote rather than answering the original question.

I started again from the bottom step, deliberately, even though I had been much further along before. It was the right call and my prescriber agreed without me having to argue.

The shame was the worst of it for me, and the shame was also the least justified part. Nothing about a break requires an apology.

My prescriber's first sentence when I asked about going back was that plenty of people do, which deflated about six weeks of dread in one go.

I want to slow this down a little. There are four different accounts of the same stage in this thread and they are all somebody's real experience, which makes them true and not necessarily relevant to the person who asked.

My second time round I set up a buddy from week one instead of week thirty, and it is the single change that made the most difference.
