Fortified drinks — which ones are tolerable

Something I have been sitting with: Fortified drinks — which ones are tolerable Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

The logistics of this are defeating me more than the medicine is.

I would like practical detail rather than encouragement. What people actually do, in what order, and what goes wrong when they get it wrong.

My household has adjusted to about half of this and the other half is causing small daily friction that I have not known how to raise.

No hurry. I have a fortnight before I need to decide anything.

My dietitian understood plant-based eating properly and that made an enormous difference compared to the general advice I had been given.

Something practical: I keep something ready in the fridge at all times, because when my appetite is low I will not cook.

Nolene said something I want to sit with for a second.

The B12 and iron conversation is worth having explicitly rather than assuming. Mine turned up something worth correcting.

Gently: nobody needs to justify the shape of their week here, including the members whose weeks have no shape at all.

Ashwin said something I want to sit with for a second.

What helped was two things I actually enjoy rather than five things I felt I should eat. The should list never survived a difficult week.

My experience is that this is entirely workable and needs a bit more planning, and the planning is a one-off cost rather than a daily one.

Somebody here suggested keeping a very short list on the fridge, and mine has been there for eighteen months and I still use it.

Building on what Bryn wrote rather than answering the original question.

I had to stop treating this as a nutritional puzzle and start treating it as a shopping problem, and it became much easier.

Coming back to what Nemone wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

Somebody in this circle wrote out their week for me when I asked and it saved me about three months of working it out badly.

What helped was one very boring reliable breakfast that I have eaten roughly six hundred times and still do not mind.

I would say ask specifically for somebody who knows plant-based eating. The first person I saw clearly did not and it wasted an appointment.

Picking up Torrin’s point rather than starting a new one.

My honest report is that I eat better now than I did before, mostly because I finally had to think about it properly.

Picking up Clover’s point rather than starting a new one.

Something practical: I batch things on a Sunday, which sounds tedious and takes forty minutes and covers most of my week.

The texture changes early on were a bigger obstacle for me than the protein arithmetic, and nobody had warned me about them.

Thank you for the update. Threads that stop are the worst kind.

My bloods have been unremarkable throughout, which I attribute mostly to a supplement I was already taking rather than anything clever.

What surprised me was how much easier this got once my appetite settled. The difficult stretch was months three to six and then it resolved.

Bryn — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

Something that helped was accepting a repetitive week. The same four things, most weeks, and my dietitian was entirely content.

Nemone said something I want to sit with for a second.

The soya question comes up here every few months and my dietitian was completely unbothered, which was a relief after a lot of internet noise.

Speaking as a facilitator: nobody owes anybody at their own table an explanation, and this circle will keep saying so as often as it needs to.

My experience of appointments improved once I stopped apologising for how I eat and simply stated it as a constraint to work within.
