Losing a session a week and keeping the two that matter Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

The logistics of this are defeating me more than the medicine is.

The social side of this is harder for me than any of the logistics, and I have not found anywhere else where that is discussed practically.

I would rather hear one person's actual arrangement in detail than five general suggestions, if anybody is willing to write theirs out.

To put the figure in the title beside the rest of it: two. That is the whole of the arithmetic and none of it is an estimate.

Sorry for the length. The logistics take longer to describe than they do to do.

My honest report is that my strength has been maintained across two years, and it was not automatic, and lifting was the reason.

I want to acknowledge how much unglamorous organising sits behind most of the accounts here. It is real work and it rarely gets named as work.

Ren — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

Something I got wrong was trying to train through a difficult fortnight. It achieved nothing and set me back further.

The recovery side was where I noticed it most. Same session, slower recovery, for about two months.

Picking up Tacita’s point rather than starting a new one.

What I would say is get the protein sorted before anything else. Everything I read agreed and I ignored it for a season.

My sessions are shorter and heavier now and that has worked better than the volume I used to do.

I had a period where I was clearly underfuelling without meaning to, and my coach spotted it before I did.

Bram has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

Something that helped was eating on a schedule rather than on appetite, because appetite stopped being a reliable signal.

The competition side needed a proper conversation with somebody who understood both, and finding that person took a while.

You have described the bit that nobody warns you about.

Gently noticing that we have drifted from the original question into a related one. Both are worth having and only one was asked.

What I would say to anybody starting is do not stop lifting. That is the one thing everybody here agrees on.
