What helped in the three months after — putting it in its own thread so it does not get lost in the check-in.

Long one, sorry. I have been chewing on this for a fortnight.

What I am trying to work out is whether this is a phase with an end to it or the shape of things now, and I do not think I can tell that from inside it.

I have been reading this circle for months and everybody else's account of this stage sounds much tidier than mine, which is either reassuring or the wrong conclusion entirely.

What I would find most useful is not advice. It is somebody describing what their version of this stage was, and how long it went on for before it changed.

I have checked my notes before posting, so three months is accurate rather than the impression I had been carrying around.

Anyway. Thank you for reading this far. Any experience of this stage gratefully received, and I will come back and say what happened.

What I noticed after stopping was that the habits stayed longer than I expected and then quietly went. That was useful information about which habits had been mine.

I would say do not stop in a difficult week if you can possibly help it. My decision was sound and the timing was terrible and the timing is what made it hard.

A note for whoever opened this, whether you are still reading or come back to it in a year: there is no obligation on you to update us, and equally you are always welcome to.

I came off during a pregnancy, on advice, and it was straightforward clinically and complicated emotionally, and I did not find anywhere to say that until this circle.

Nothing to add except that I am glad this thread exists.

I stopped and did not go back, and I am at peace with it, and I would not present that as a recommendation to anybody. It was my situation and my body.

The grief part surprised me. I had not expected to grieve a medication and I did, for about a month, and then it passed.

Reading Sinéad, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

Something practical: I kept everything — the notes, the dates, the letters — for a year after stopping. It made the eventual conversation about restarting take four minutes instead of forty.

Building on what Tressa wrote rather than answering the original question.

My stop was abrupt because of a supply problem rather than a choice, and I want to name that as its own category. It happens and it is nobody's decision.

I would gently suggest keeping your journal going through the stopping. Mine is the only reason I know what actually happened in those months rather than what I remember happening.

Coming back a year after stopping to say that I am well, that it was the right decision for me, and that I still read here every week.

Ida said something I want to sit with for a second.

I came off because of cost, not because of anything clinical, and it took me a long time to say that without embarrassment. It is an extremely common reason and it is not a moral failing.

I stopped twice. The first time badly and alone, the second time properly and with support. The second one is the one I would describe as coming off.

If you are reading this while deciding, the only thing I would push on is: is anybody clinical in the loop. Everything else is genuinely yours to weigh.

No advice, just company. Here if it helps.

The thing that made it manageable was that nothing about the decision was final. Reviewing it in three months was always an option and knowing that took the weight out of it.

Closing note from me: this stays open, it stays linked from the circle landing page, and if you found it late you are still welcome to add to it.

What Bastian described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

Honest note: my first month off was much better than I had feared and my third month was much harder. The order surprised me.
