A question rather than an update: Spanish private clinics, honestly reviewed

Regional question, because I have read a great deal of advice that turns out to be true in one country only.

The pathway where I am appears to be different from every account I have read, and I would like to know whether that is the area or me.

The language of the paperwork is part of my difficulty and I would like to know whether anybody has found a way round that.

Thank you for reading. Please do say where you are when you reply — it changes what the answer means.

The language of the documentation was the practical barrier for me, and asking for a translated summary was straightforward once I asked.

Speaking as a facilitator: comparing systems is interesting and rarely actionable. The question asked was about one system and deserves an answer about that one.

What Izolda described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

What surprised me was how much of the process was handled by my pharmacist rather than my doctor, which is not how it works elsewhere.

My insurance required a specific form from the specialist and the whole thing hinged on one box that had not been ticked.

Gently disagreeing with Gudrun, or rather adding the other half of it.

My reviews are six-monthly with a specialist and that is the standard arrangement here rather than something I negotiated.

Something I got right was keeping every document. The reimbursement claim eighteen months later needed one from the first month.

What I would flag is that a private route exists in most of these systems and the cost varies by a factor I would not have believed.

I found the system here slower to start and much better once started, which several people in this circle have described from other countries too.

Yannick, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

My experience is that the general advice online is written for two or three systems and is misleading for the rest of us.

Thank you all. Somebody arriving confused by advice written for a different country and leaving with an answer for their own is the whole job of this circle, and it only works because people say where they are.

My specialist referral was straightforward and took three weeks, which I understand is fast compared to some of the accounts here.
