Gastroparesis and a medication that slows the gut — my consultant's view — putting it in its own thread so it does not get lost in the check-in.

Before anyone says it: yes, I have an appointment booked. I would still like to hear from people who have had this.

Squeamish subject, so I am going to be plain about it and get it over with. It has been going on for long enough now that I would like to know whether it is ordinary.

My pharmacist has been helpful and my question has now outgrown what she can answer at a counter, so I am asking here while I wait for an appointment.

No advice needed if you would rather not. Recognition is genuinely enough.

Somebody here suggested writing a one-page summary of my history to hand over at appointments, and it has saved me an enormous amount of repeating myself.

Stepping in because a question about another medication has come up. That is a pharmacist question and it is genuinely one they will answer properly and quickly.

Bryher said something I want to sit with for a second.

I had surgery years ago and that changed the picture substantially, and I want to say that anybody in that position should be talking to a specialist rather than to a thread.

Coming back to what Bryher wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

What changed things for me was a dietitian who knew both sides. General nutrition advice had been useless and specific advice was transformative.

Mine required one pause and one restart in eighteen months and both were planned rather than emergencies. That is a good outcome for a complicated gut.
