A question rather than an update: After a sleeve, twelve years ago, and now this

Before anyone says it: yes, I have an appointment booked. I would still like to hear from people who have had this.

This started at the same time as two other things, which is why I cannot attribute it to anything with any confidence.

I have had a fortnight of this and then three good days and then another fortnight, and the pattern is the bit I would most like to understand.

I keep records precisely so that I do not have to estimate, and the record says twelve years, which is what the title says too.

Sorry to be graphic. If anybody has had this, I would rather hear it plainly than politely.

I would say get the two sets of clinicians talking to each other if you possibly can. Mine were not, for a year, and I was the messenger and I got it wrong twice.

Something that surprised me: my long-standing symptoms improved rather than worsened. That is not everybody's experience and I did not expect it to be mine.

A standing thank-you to anybody who returns to a thread with the outcome. Threads that simply stop are the ones that leave the next person stranded, and one sentence months later prevents it.

Quietly agreeing from the other side of the country.

I take other things for my gut and the timing of them relative to everything else needed working out properly with a pharmacist. Worth an appointment of its own.

My history meant I was watched more closely, which I resented at first and was quietly grateful for later.

The flare I had at month three turned out to be my usual condition doing its usual thing at its usual time of year, and I had blamed the medication for a fortnight.

Building on what Posy wrote rather than answering the original question.

What I needed and could not find was somebody with my specific combination. This circle is the closest I have got and it has been worth a great deal.

Mine required one pause and one restart in eighteen months and both were planned rather than emergencies. That is a good outcome for a complicated gut.

Aleks has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

I want to say clearly that nothing in this circle replaces the specialist who knows your history. We are company, not a second opinion.

The advice to eat small and often already described my life. I had been doing it for fifteen years and had nothing left to adjust.

I would gently say that a previous diagnosis is a reason to have the conversation carefully rather than a reason not to have it.

Ephraim has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

What changed things for me was a dietitian who knew both sides. General nutrition advice had been useless and specific advice was transformative.

Holding for a second on a habit rather than on anybody: people in this circle call their own symptoms trivial, and they are usually not. If you have done it on this page, I would rather name it than let it go by.

Reading Özlem, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

My records were a mess across three services and putting them in order myself, once, in an afternoon, made every subsequent appointment better.
