My worst week and how I got through it — putting it in its own thread so it does not get lost in the check-in.

Squeamish subject, so I am going to be plain about it and get it over with.

Nobody warned me about this specifically and I am starting to think that is because it is common enough that everybody assumed I knew.

Something is going on and I would like to know whether other people have had it, mostly so I know whether to raise it or wait it out.

Sorry to be graphic. If anybody has had this, I would rather hear it plainly than politely.

Plain crackers in the bedside drawer sounds ridiculous and it is the single most useful thing anybody in this circle ever told me.

Holding a boundary: we do not swap remedies in this circle as though they were prescriptions. Describing what happened to you is welcome; telling somebody what to take is not.

Tomás has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

The thing I would flag is that not being able to keep fluids down is a different category from not fancying food. If you are in the first one, please ring somebody today.

Smell was the trigger for me more than taste. I could eat things I could not be in the room while they cooked, which took me weeks to work out.

What got me through was very small amounts, very often, and not caring at all what they were. Nutrition can wait a fortnight; not eating anything cannot.

Building on what Bell A wrote rather than answering the original question.

Ginger did nothing for me and mint did a surprising amount, and I have watched other people here report exactly the opposite. It seems genuinely individual.

The pattern for mine was days two and three, every time, reliably. Once I knew that, I planned around it and it stopped being an ambush.

I read this twice. The second time was for the last paragraph.

Gently disagreeing with Viv, or rather adding the other half of it.

What I did not expect was how much better I felt after eating, when eating was the last thing I wanted to do. That gap between wanting and helping was the hard bit.

Mine improved noticeably when I stopped drinking with meals and had my fluids in between. Somebody here suggested it and I was sceptical and it worked.

I want to say gently that if the difficulty eating has started to feel like relief rather than a symptom, that is worth mentioning to somebody. It crept up on me and a member here noticed before I did.

The thing that changed it for me was a slower schedule agreed with my prescriber. Within a fortnight the eating side was manageable again.

Mine was worst in the evening, which meant dinner became the hard meal. Moving the substantial part of my day earlier fixed most of it.

Ray — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

Protein was completely impossible for me during the worst of it and I stopped trying. It came back and it came back quickly once the nausea lifted.

What helped enormously was somebody else doing the deciding. When my partner just put something in front of me I could usually eat it; when I had to choose, I could not.

Renata said something I want to sit with for a second.

Mine lasted about five weeks and then more or less stopped. I still get a mild version for a day after a step up and I now expect it.

Renata has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

I found that eating something small before I felt hungry was the whole trick. Waiting until I wanted food meant it never arrived.

I want to name that an account of something resolving and an account of something that did not are equally welcome here. A page carrying only the first kind would be no use to the person reading it at two in the morning.

Room temperature turned out to matter more than anything else on the plate. Straight from the fridge and straight from the oven were both impossible for a month.
