The difference between full and finished Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

Something is going on with my body and I would like to know whether it is ordinary.

Something is going on and I would like to know whether other people have had it, mostly so I know whether to raise it or wait it out.

What I cannot tell is whether this is the ordinary tax or the sort of thing that needs somebody today, and that distinction is the whole of my question.

This started at the same time as two other things, which is why I cannot attribute it to anything with any confidence.

Not after remedies particularly. Mostly I want to know whether this is ordinary and how long it went on for.

Something practical: I kept a bag of what I could actually manage in my work locker, so a bad afternoon did not turn into a bad evening.

Slowing this down for a moment. The question asked was whether this is ordinary. That is not the same as asking what to do about it and we have answered the second one.

Reading this at half past six with a cup of tea and nodding at every line.

The thing that changed it for me was a slower schedule agreed with my prescriber. Within a fortnight the eating side was manageable again.

Mine came in waves of about twenty minutes and if I could sit still through the wave it passed. Trying to do anything during it always made it worse.

The advice that helped least was to eat whatever appeals. Nothing appealed. What I needed was a list of things I could get down when nothing appealed.

I found sipping rather than drinking was the difference. A full glass at once was guaranteed to be a mistake for about a month.

Bryn said something I want to sit with for a second.

Mine was much better on the days I ate breakfast within an hour of waking, and much worse on the days I skipped it. That was the clearest pattern in my notes.

Mine improved noticeably when I stopped drinking with meals and had my fluids in between. Somebody here suggested it and I was sceptical and it worked.

Picking up Wilf’s point rather than starting a new one.

What I did not expect was how much better I felt after eating, when eating was the last thing I wanted to do. That gap between wanting and helping was the hard bit.

I raised it at my review having tracked it for three weeks and we changed one thing. It was a much shorter conversation than I had rehearsed.

Perla has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

Toast. Endless toast. Six weeks of toast and I was fine, and my bloods at the end of it were unremarkable.

What Ilse described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

Coming back to say it lifted. Five weeks of genuinely difficult and then it went, and I have eaten normally for eighteen months since.

I am going to gently push back on the drift towards reassurance. The person who asked described something specific and deserves an accurate answer rather than a comfortable one.

Cold food was the thing that worked for me. Anything hot and aromatic was impossible for about six weeks and cold worked when nothing else did.
