The phone call that started all this

The phone call that started all this Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

Some background first, because it matters for the question.

I have brought this up at two appointments and been reassured both times without anybody actually looking at it, which is why I want to go in better prepared.

I have a specialist appointment in six weeks and I want to use it properly rather than spending it explaining background they already have.

I have two clinicians who each manage half of me and neither of them has seen the whole picture, which is how I ended up asking a support community.

Thank you for reading all the background. I know it is a lot and I think it changes the answer.

What helped was having something to measure that was not a body. Steps, sleep hours, a walk after dinner. All of those were things I could actually influence.

I want to be plain about what this circle does with something a member has been told was in their head: it does not treat it that way. If that is why you have been slow to post, it is worth knowing in advance.

My nurse asked what I thought I could sustain rather than what I thought I should do, and that question produced a much more honest plan.

That is a kinder way of putting it than I have managed about myself.

Something practical: I got a copy of every result going back six years and put them in one place, and the trend told me more than any single figure.

Picking up Noah’s point rather than starting a new one.

I had assumed this was a straight line to something worse and my GP was clear that it is not, and that framing changed how I approached the whole year.

Tarq has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

What I found here that I did not find elsewhere was people talking about this without any shame attached to it, which is most of why I stayed.

My experience is that the small things held and the big changes did not. Three months of enormous effort achieved less than a year of two small habits.

Adding a name to the list of people this helped.

Coming back to what Nadia wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

I found the group programme's most useful feature was that everybody in it was in the same position, which is a very similar reason to why I am here.

Mine has stayed steady for two years without dropping further, and my GP is entirely content with that, and it took me a while to be content with it too.

Adding this to the circle's standing resources. It is the clearest account of the overlap we have and I would like people to find it.

I would say do not let a number become the whole of how you think about yourself. I did that for about six months and it was not useful.
