Something I have been sitting with: How much is enough — what the evidence supports and what it does not Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

Anyone else navigating this? I feel as though every piece of advice I read was written for someone with a completely different week.

The thing I have not been able to find anywhere is how people manage this when the week has no fixed shape at all.

I would rather hear one person's actual arrangement in detail than five general suggestions, if anybody is willing to write theirs out.

I have a plan for the ordinary weeks and no plan at all for the unusual ones, and the unusual ones are where everything has gone wrong.

I will come back and say what I settled on, in case it is useful to the next person asking this.

What I would say is that this is the least interesting and most reliable part of the whole business. It works and it is dull.

I am pleased with this thread. Practical, kind, no instructions, no comparisons. That is the whole brief.

The thing that convinced me was noticing that carrying the shopping had got easier, which is a much better measure than anything I could count.

Something I got wrong was doing too much at the start. Two sessions I could keep beat four sessions I abandoned in March.

I read this twice. The second time was for the last paragraph.

What surprised me was how much easier the strength side got once the protein side was solved. They were not independent problems.

Somebody here suggested spreading it across the day rather than one large meal, and it turned out my body was much happier with that.

Bertrand said something I want to sit with for a second.

I keep a shake for the days when eating is not happening, and it is not elegant and it means the day is not a write-off.

Something practical: I worked out four things I will always eat and I stopped trying to be varied about it.

The limits of yoghurt became a running joke in my house. It is genuinely hard to get there on the things I actually want.

Coming back at two years to say the twice a week held, the protein habit held, and they are the two things I would keep above all else.

Unglamorous, well established, and it genuinely does fit on a postcard: eat enough protein, lift something heavy twice a week.

The list on the fridge idea came from this circle and it is the single most useful thing I have taken from anywhere.

Reading Marit, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

Protein first at each meal was what worked for me. Nothing more complicated than the order things went on the plate.

Coming back to what Marit wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

What I found is that the evening is where mine falls short, because by then my appetite has gone and I am tired.

Before nine in the morning is when I get most of mine in now, entirely because that is when I can actually eat.

My dietitian gave me a target and then, more usefully, gave me three ways to hit it that did not require me to want food.

What helped was measuring for two weeks and then never again. I found out where I actually was and then stopped thinking about it.

Speaking as a facilitator: nobody owes anybody at their own table an explanation, and this circle will keep saying so as often as it needs to.

Harri, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

Twice a week, whatever else happens. That is my whole strength plan and it has survived two years and one house move.
