Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: Bone density, strength and a loss phase

The logistics of this are defeating me more than the medicine is.

My household has adjusted to about half of this and the other half is causing small daily friction that I have not known how to raise.

The thing I have not been able to find anywhere is how people manage this when the week has no fixed shape at all.

I have a plan for the ordinary weeks and no plan at all for the unusual ones, and the unusual ones are where everything has gone wrong.

Thanks in advance. Practical detail welcome, however dull — the duller the better, honestly.

My dietitian gave me a target and then, more usefully, gave me three ways to hit it that did not require me to want food.

I am going to redirect us back to the original poster, who has not had a chance to answer any of the questions put to them.

Building on what Rohan wrote rather than answering the original question.

My protein went up and my energy followed within about three weeks, which was a much faster effect than I expected.

What I would say is that this is the least interesting and most reliable part of the whole business. It works and it is dull.

Reading Ren, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

The thing that convinced me was noticing that carrying the shopping had got easier, which is a much better measure than anything I could count.

Something I got wrong was doing too much at the start. Two sessions I could keep beat four sessions I abandoned in March.

I found bodyweight work at home more sustainable than a gym membership, and it has been enough for what I needed.

Twice a week, whatever else happens. That is my whole strength plan and it has survived two years and one house move.

I found that a lot of the general advice assumes a large appetite, and the useful adaptations all came from people here.

What I got right was starting the lifting early rather than waiting until I felt ready, because I never felt ready.

The advice that helped least was to eat more protein without any suggestion of how, when my appetite had gone.

Thank you. Genuinely.

Something practical: I do mine on the same two mornings every week and I do not decide anything, I just go.

Bay has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

My dietitian was clear that hitting roughly the right amount most days beat hitting exactly the right amount some days.

I keep a shake for the days when eating is not happening, and it is not elegant and it means the day is not a write-off.

Clover said something I want to sit with for a second.

Somebody here suggested spreading it across the day rather than one large meal, and it turned out my body was much happier with that.

Nemone — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

What surprised me was how much easier the strength side got once the protein side was solved. They were not independent problems.

My experience is that this needed a plan for about eight weeks and then became automatic and I have not thought about it since.

Stepping in to say what happens here when somebody describes a very tight situation: they get answered without a trace of judgement. That is not luck, it is the habit of the room, and it is worth protecting.

Gently disagreeing with Ren, or rather adding the other half of it.

Nothing here is a prescription for a body. The amount that suits you is a conversation with somebody who knows your situation.
