Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: Dizziness on standing — what was going on for me

Something is going on with my body and I would like to know whether it is ordinary.

This started at the same time as two other things, which is why I cannot attribute it to anything with any confidence.

I have avoided asking about this for six weeks out of pure embarrassment, which is ridiculous given that this circle exists precisely for it.

I want to describe this accurately rather than politely, because the polite version is what I said at my last appointment and it got me nowhere.

Thanks in advance. Even a one-line "yes, me too" would help more than you would think.

Mine did not settle and in the end I stopped, and that was the right decision for me. Both outcomes exist in this circle and neither is a failure.

Gwen has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

Somebody here told me early on that the aim is to stay on treatment comfortably rather than to endure it, and that changed how quickly I raised things.

Gwen, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

I logged mine against the day of my week and the pattern was so clear that my prescriber changed one thing and it mostly went. The log did the work.

A note for anybody arriving at this thread mid-way: if what you are experiencing is frightening rather than merely uncomfortable, that is a reason to ask somebody qualified this week rather than to read further.

Peggy, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

The thing I underestimated was tiredness as a symptom in its own right. I kept looking for a dramatic cause and it was simply that I was very tired.

Here, reading, and glad you posted.

What I found is that describing it precisely to myself was half the battle. Vague discomfort is frightening; a specific sensation at a specific time is a question with an answer.

There is a list in the guides of the things that need somebody today rather than a thread, and I have sent it to about six people. It is worth reading before you need it.

Reading Maren, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

I found the anticipation harder than the symptom. Once I had had it twice and knew what it was, the third time barely registered.

Mine was almost entirely about timing. Moving when I did it by two days changed the shape of my week completely and cost nothing.

Picking up Ravi’s point rather than starting a new one.

I went in about mine, it was investigated properly, and it was not what any of us feared. Going in is the whole of my advice and I have no other.

Coming back a fortnight later to say mine settled, because I hate threads that stop halfway through somebody's difficult month.

I want to name that an account of something resolving and an account of something that did not are equally welcome here. A page carrying only the first kind would be no use to the person reading it at two in the morning.

The hardest part for me was not the symptom, it was not knowing which category it belonged in. Ordinary tax, or something to raise this week. That distinction is most of what this circle does.
