Something I have been sitting with: Three weeks at each step instead of four and it changed everything Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

I have been reading here for a few weeks and have not posted, so this is me posting.

I have a review coming up and I would like to arrive with a proper account of this stage rather than the vague description I gave last time.

My prescriber has been fine, genuinely. The problem is that I get nine minutes twice a year and there is no version of nine minutes that covers a whole stage of this.

I have put three weeks in the title because that is the number I keep coming back to, and I would rather be specific than vague about it.

I will report back either way, because other people's follow-ups have helped me more than their questions.

Going up slowly meant I could actually tell what each change did. When I moved faster at the start, everything happened at once and I could not attribute anything to anything.

Hedda, I have been where you are and I would rather say so than stay quiet.

Every step up for me came with about ten days of adjustment and then nothing. Knowing that the ten days were coming made them much easier to sit through.

Whenever somebody new arrives worried about being slow, I say the same thing: nobody in this circle is going to be impressed by speed, and nobody is keeping score.

A note for whoever opened this, whether you are still reading or come back to it in a year: there is no obligation on you to update us, and equally you are always welcome to.

Gently disagreeing with Brammy, or rather adding the other half of it.

I found I needed about three weeks at each step before I knew what that step was like. Two weeks always gave me a half-formed impression that I then acted on.

That is a kinder way of putting it than I have managed about myself.

My honest reason for going slowly is that I have a job I cannot be unwell in, and that is a perfectly respectable reason that I no longer apologise for.

What Florrie described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

I asked my prescriber directly what the cost of going slowly was and she said, in effect, time. That was a trade I was happy to make once it was stated plainly.

Slow titration is not the cautious version of this. For some of us it is simply the version that works, and I have stopped framing it as a hedge.

My prescriber and I settled on longer gaps between steps and shorter gaps between conversations, which I would recommend to anybody who finds the schedule stressful.

Gently disagreeing with Bevan, or rather adding the other half of it.

I would gently add that slow is not the same as stalled. I moved twice this year, both times deliberately, both times after a conversation. That is progress with a handbrake, not no progress.

Coming back a year later to say the slow route held. I am still on treatment, still comfortable, still having ordinary weeks. That was the entire point of going slowly.

I have been at the same step for eleven months, agreed with my prescriber, and it is the best decision I have made in this whole business. Slow was not a compromise, it was the plan.

The schedule on the box is a default, not a deadline. My nurse said that in my second month and it reorganised how I thought about the whole thing.

I stayed where I was for four months because it suited me there, and the only pressure to move came from me. Not from my prescriber, and certainly not from anybody here.

Quietly agreeing from the other side of the country.

Stepping in to say that nobody here is behind. There is no schedule this community keeps and nobody is measuring anybody against one.

Hal said something I want to sit with for a second.

What worked for me was agreeing a review point rather than a step-up date. We would look at it in eight weeks and decide then, which took the whole thing out of my head in the meantime.
