A question rather than an update: Post-thyroidectomy and on treatment

I have avoided asking about this for six weeks out of pure embarrassment.

I would like to hear timescales more than remedies. Knowing how long other people's lasted would turn this from an open-ended thing into a bounded one.

It is not severe. It is relentless, which turns out to be a different problem, and one I have found much harder to describe to anybody.

What I cannot tell is whether this is the ordinary tax or the sort of thing that needs somebody today, and that distinction is the whole of my question.

Thanks in advance. Even a one-line "yes, me too" would help more than you would think.

I did not know until this circle that a recheck at a set interval was standard. I had been assuming somebody would call me if something looked wrong.

What Persis described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

The timing of when I take mine relative to everything else mattered, and a pharmacist sorted it out in one conversation after months of me guessing.

I had assumed tiredness was one thing and it turned out to be the other, and the only way anybody found out was by testing rather than reasoning.

Gently disagreeing with Gus, or rather adding the other half of it.

What I would say is to get a baseline set of bloods before starting if you possibly can. Mine were eight months old and it made interpreting the later ones much harder.

Minnie has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

The absorption question was the one I could not get a straight answer to for a long time, and my endocrinology nurse eventually gave me a very clear one.

My results have been stable throughout and I am told that is common. I mention it because the threads that get written are usually the ones where something changed.

My endocrinologist was much more relaxed about all of this than I was, and being told plainly that this is well-trodden ground was the reassurance I needed.

The thing I got wrong was comparing my numbers to other people's. The ranges are individual and the trend matters more than the figure.

What I did not know was that a change in one thing can move the numbers in the other, and that is expected rather than alarming.

I take mine at a completely different time of day now and it is the only change that was needed. Very small, very effective.

Mine was diagnosed years before any of this and I have found the two entirely manageable together, which is a boring but real report.

The most useful thing I did was book the bloods and the review as a pair, so I never sat on a result for three weeks waiting to discuss it.

I found a nurse-led clinic that handles the reviews and it is far more thorough than any GP appointment I have had on this.

Thank you all. Somebody arriving embarrassed and being answered without a trace of it is the whole reason this circle is worded the way it is, and it takes everybody to keep it that way.
