Which symptoms were the thyroid all along Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

Before anyone says it: yes, I have an appointment booked. I would still like to hear from people who have had this.

I have read the guide on this and it covered the ordinary version. Mine is not quite the ordinary version and that is why I am asking.

My pharmacist has been helpful and my question has now outgrown what she can answer at a counter, so I am asking here while I wait for an appointment.

Sorry to be graphic. If anybody has had this, I would rather hear it plainly than politely.

I asked for a copy of every result, always, and it has let me see a slow drift over three years that nobody would have spotted from one appointment.

Thank you all. Somebody arriving embarrassed and being answered without a trace of it is the whole reason this circle is worded the way it is, and it takes everybody to keep it that way.

What helped was one clinician taking ownership of the whole picture. Before that I had two people each managing half of me.

My hair shedding turned out to be thyroid-related rather than anything else, and correcting it fixed the shedding within about four months.

The symptom overlap is genuinely difficult. Tiredness, cold, mood, hair — all of those belong to both stories and none of them tells you which.

Reading Bryony, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

I would say do not adjust anything yourself on the basis of how you feel. I nearly did and my nurse was very clear about why that was a bad idea.

Perry — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

My GP rechecked at twelve weeks as a matter of routine and adjusted, and the whole thing was much less eventful than I had braced for.

Something worth asking: which specific tests are being run. Mine had been getting one for years and the fuller panel answered a question that had been open for ages.

I keep all my results in one document with the dates and the reference ranges, and it has been worth every minute of the hour it took to build.

Reading this properly rather than skimming, which is all I have to offer today.

Nothing here is medical advice and this is a subject where that matters more than usual, because the numbers genuinely need somebody qualified reading them.

I did not know until this circle that a recheck at a set interval was standard. I had been assuming somebody would call me if something looked wrong.

You have described the bit that nobody warns you about.

Mine was diagnosed years before any of this and I have found the two entirely manageable together, which is a boring but real report.

What I would flag is that a new symptom is worth mentioning to both teams rather than deciding for yourself which one it belongs to.

Coming back to what Grizel wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

I found a nurse-led clinic that handles the reviews and it is far more thorough than any GP appointment I have had on this.

The thing I got wrong was comparing my numbers to other people's. The ranges are individual and the trend matters more than the figure.

My endocrinologist was much more relaxed about all of this than I was, and being told plainly that this is well-trodden ground was the reassurance I needed.

Reading Bryn M, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

I take mine at a completely different time of day now and it is the only change that was needed. Very small, very effective.

What I did not know was that a change in one thing can move the numbers in the other, and that is expected rather than alarming.

Building on what Özlem wrote rather than answering the original question.

My levels shifted and needed rechecking, which my endocrinologist had told me to expect and my GP had not. Worth knowing in advance.

A standing thank-you to anybody who returns to a thread with the outcome. Threads that simply stop are the ones that leave the next person stranded, and one sentence months later prevents it.

Coming back after my recheck to say everything was unremarkable and no change was needed. Leaving it here for the next person searching this circle at midnight.
