The letter that got me on the list — putting it in its own thread so it does not get lost in the check-in.

Anyone else here in my part of the world? I would like to compare notes.

The language of the paperwork is part of my difficulty and I would like to know whether anybody has found a way round that.

The forms and the sequence are what I am stuck on rather than anything clinical, and the sequence appears to be local knowledge.

I have moved and everything that was arranged has had to be arranged again, and I would like to know what I have forgotten.

Thanks. Local experience especially welcome — I have plenty of advice from elsewhere and none of it applies.

What I would say is that the local specifics matter enormously and general advice about the system is usually wrong for your particular area.

A request rather than a note: where somebody sets out a sequence, give it in order and with the names of the forms. Half a sequence is what sends the next person round twice.

Ada has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

The pharmacy route and the specialist route are genuinely different here and I did not understand that for a year.

Something practical: ask for a copy of your referral letter. Mine had an error in it that would have delayed things by months.

My GP referred me and then nothing happened for seven months, and one phone call to the service found that the referral had never arrived.

The waiting list where I am was quoted at eighteen months and turned out to be closer to eleven, so it is worth asking again rather than assuming.

Coming back to say I got there, that it took fourteen months from first asking, and that the care since has been good.

Nothing here is medical advice and local pathways change, so the person at your practice will always know more than any thread.

The travel to the specialist centre was the main cost for me and moving to telephone reviews solved most of it.

I asked to be told the specific criterion I was being assessed against and it made the whole thing much more navigable.

I am going to gently discourage anybody from generalising from one area to a whole country. It has caught people out twice in this circle this year.
