Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: Vitamin D in a Scottish winter

I have read the paper and I am not sure I have understood it.

I have a document in front of me and I can read every line of it and I still cannot tell what it proves.

I would like to know what the best single piece of human evidence is, because I suspect the honest answer is thinner than the discussion suggests.

What I want is the methods rather than the conclusions, because I have been burned by a conclusion that the methods did not support.

Thanks. I would genuinely rather be told nobody knows than be given a confident answer.

Something practical: I write the date and the range next to every figure, because a number without its range is not information.

I want to name the order this circle teaches: what the test is actually for, and only then what the figure means. Almost nobody arrives doing it that way round and almost everybody leaves doing it.

What I found is that the trend across three sets tells you far more than any single set, and I did not have three sets for two years.

Tinuke said something I want to sit with for a second.

The reference range matters as much as the number. Two labs gave me figures that looked different and were the same once I checked the ranges.

Thank you for coming back to update it. So many threads just stop.

The thing I would flag is that a single out-of-range figure is usually a reason to repeat rather than a reason to panic.

Something I got right was booking the review and the bloods as a pair, so I never sat on a result for three weeks.
