Something I have been sitting with: The fortnight after the last dose Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

I have been reading here for a few weeks and have not posted, so this is me posting.

I nearly did not post this because it feels like a small thing to be stuck on. It has taken up most of my thinking for a month, so apparently it is not small to me.

Here is where I actually am. The medicine side has been more or less as described; the part nobody prepared me for is everything around it — what to say to people, how to plan a week, and how to tell an ordinary stage from one worth raising.

Sorry for the length. If anybody has been at this point, I would very much like to hear how it went.

I came off for eight months and went back on, and I want both halves of that on the record because threads that only cover the leaving are only half a story.

Nobody here is going to think less of you for stopping. That was my genuine fear when I posted about it, and it was completely unfounded.

Two things, both boring. None of us can tell you what schedule to be on. The conversation you want is with your prescriber, and we can help you write it down before you go.

The practical thing I got right was writing down why I was stopping while I was still on it. Two months later I could not have reconstructed my own reasoning.

Picking up Gabe’s point rather than starting a new one.

I stopped because my prescriber said so, which is a very different experience from choosing it, and it took me longer to make peace with because it was not mine.

What I found hardest was other people treating it as a failure while my prescriber treated it as a normal clinical decision. Their reaction was the difficult part, not the decision.

The tapering conversation was more nuanced than I expected. It was not simply stop or continue; there were several shapes in between and I had not known that.

Tilly has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

Six months off and I am fine. Different, and fine. I came back to this circle to say so because when I was leaving I could not find anybody who had.

I would gently suggest keeping your journal going through the stopping. Mine is the only reason I know what actually happened in those months rather than what I remember happening.

Nothing useful, just that I have been exactly here.

Mine was a side-effect decision, taken carefully, with two conversations and a proper look at the alternatives first. It was the right call and it was still sad.

My stop was abrupt because of a supply problem rather than a choice, and I want to name that as its own category. It happens and it is nobody's decision.

The circle carried me through the first eight weeks after stopping more than anything else did. Nothing anybody said, particularly. The turning up.

Dash has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

What helped me was deciding in advance what I would do if things changed after stopping, so that I was not making that decision from inside a difficult month.

What Ida described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

The thing nobody told me is that stopping is a process with its own weeks in it. I had expected a date and got a season.

Mine was a planned stop with my prescriber over about four months. Having a plan made the difference between a decision and a collapse.

What I would say to anybody considering it is to have the conversation before you decide rather than after. My prescriber had two options I had not known existed.

That is a kinder way of putting it than I have managed about myself.

Noticing out loud that we have drifted into comparing timelines. That happens without anybody intending it and it does not help the person who opened the thread. Let us come back to them.

I stopped and did not go back, and I am at peace with it, and I would not present that as a recommendation to anybody. It was my situation and my body.
