Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: Two countries, one prescription, a lot of paperwork

Anyone else here in my part of the world? I would like to compare notes.

I am some distance from anywhere and every arrangement I have made is shaped by that, and most of what is written assumes otherwise.

The pathway where I am appears to be different from every account I have read, and I would like to know whether that is the area or me.

Regional question, because I have read a great deal of advice that turns out to be true in one country only and I have been caught by that twice.

I have said two in the title rather than "several", because "several" is what I said last time and it got me nowhere.

Thanks. Local experience especially welcome — I have plenty of advice from elsewhere and none of it applies.

I would say find somebody in your own country to ask, because the experience varies enormously and even neighbouring systems differ.

Holding a boundary kindly: we do not tell people to move, change practices or go private in this circle. We describe what happened to us.

I moved country mid-way through and rebuilding everything took about five months, which I would plan for if I did it again.

What helped was getting everything in writing in my own language, because the summaries I was given verbally lost detail.

Cross-border care is a real option in my region and it took a specialist to explain the actual rules rather than the folklore.

This is the honest version, and the honest version is harder to write.

Hedda has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

The pharmacy here is much more involved in the ongoing management than in some of the systems described in this circle.

Something practical: the paperwork for reimbursement had to be submitted in a particular order and I got it wrong the first time.

My specialist referral was straightforward and took three weeks, which I understand is fast compared to some of the accounts here.

What I found is that reimbursement here depends on a specific criterion that is not the one used next door, and comparing was actively unhelpful.

What surprised me was how much of the process was handled by my pharmacist rather than my doctor, which is not how it works elsewhere.

Lando — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

My experience is that the general advice online is written for two or three systems and is misleading for the rest of us.

Núria — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

Something practical: I keep a one-page summary of my history in two languages, and it has been useful three times.

I am adding this to the circle's standing resources as the current best account of the process in that region.

Noor has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

My reviews are six-monthly with a specialist and that is the standard arrangement here rather than something I negotiated.
