Two conditions, two teams, one very tired patient — putting it in its own thread so it does not get lost in the check-in.

I have avoided asking about this for six weeks out of pure embarrassment.

My pharmacist has been helpful and my question has now outgrown what she can answer at a counter, so I am asking here while I wait for an appointment.

I am not looking for reassurance particularly. I am looking for somebody to say either that they had exactly this, or that they did not, because both would help.

I have read the guide on this and it covered the ordinary version. Mine is not quite the ordinary version and that is why I am asking.

Yes, two. I know how that reads written down, and it is the number, so it is going in the title where people can see it.

Not after remedies particularly. Mostly I want to know whether this is ordinary and how long it went on for.

My team's approach was to change one thing at a time and wait, which was frustrating and correct.

Slowing this down for a moment. The question asked was whether this is ordinary. That is not the same as asking what to do about it and we have answered the second one.

Quietly agreeing from the other side of the country.

What I did not expect was how much better I felt once somebody acknowledged that the combination was complicated. The acknowledgement itself helped.

What I found was that my baseline was so unusual that comparisons to other people's experiences told me almost nothing. My own notes were the only useful data.

Mine has been stable throughout, which I mention because the difficult accounts are the ones that get written down.

Gently disagreeing with Nora, or rather adding the other half of it.

Somebody here suggested writing a one-page summary of my history to hand over at appointments, and it has saved me an enormous amount of repeating myself.

I asked for a slower schedule specifically because of my history and it was granted without argument. I had expected to have to make a case.

My records were a mess across three services and putting them in order myself, once, in an afternoon, made every subsequent appointment better.

The advice to eat small and often already described my life. I had been doing it for fifteen years and had nothing left to adjust.

I would gently say that a previous diagnosis is a reason to have the conversation carefully rather than a reason not to have it.

Bracken said something I want to sit with for a second.

I take other things for my gut and the timing of them relative to everything else needed working out properly with a pharmacist. Worth an appointment of its own.

My history meant I was watched more closely, which I resented at first and was quietly grateful for later.

The flare I had at month three turned out to be my usual condition doing its usual thing at its usual time of year, and I had blamed the medication for a fortnight.

What Posy described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

What I needed and could not find was somebody with my specific combination. This circle is the closest I have got and it has been worth a great deal.

I would say get the two sets of clinicians talking to each other if you possibly can. Mine were not, for a year, and I was the messenger and I got it wrong twice.

Just marking that I read this properly rather than skimming it.

Adding a name to the list of people this helped.

The overlap in symptoms is the genuine difficulty. Two things producing similar sensations and no obvious way to tell them apart from inside.

I keep a note of what my normal actually is, written down when I am well, because from inside a bad fortnight I cannot remember.

A pharmacist spotted a timing interaction that two doctors had not, and it explained about six weeks of difficulty.

I am going to gently push back on the drift towards reassurance. The person who asked described something specific and deserves an accurate answer rather than a comfortable one.

Bracken — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

The most useful question I asked was what would make them want to stop, so that I knew what I was watching for rather than watching for everything.
