What I would tell someone in month four — putting it in its own thread so it does not get lost in the check-in.

I have been reading here for a few weeks and have not posted, so this is me posting.

I have a review coming up and I would like to arrive with a proper account of this stage rather than the vague description I gave last time.

My experience of this stage has not matched any account I have read, which I assume means the accounts are tidier than the reality rather than that something is wrong.

I have been specific in the title on purpose. Four is what it is, and being vague about it has not helped me so far.

I will report back either way, because other people's follow-ups have helped me more than their questions.

What surprised me was how much I still wanted a community in maintenance. I had assumed I would drift off once it got easy and instead I turn up more.

Gently disagreeing with Benedikt, or rather adding the other half of it.

I keep one line from my first year pinned in my notes, and I reread it whenever maintenance feels like nothing. It reminds me what nothing used to cost.

Honest answer to how long I plan to be here: I do not know, and my prescriber does not either, and we have agreed to keep looking at it rather than pretending otherwise.

The thing that made maintenance feel real was a completely unremarkable set of bloods and a prescriber who said, come back in a year. That sentence took a while to enjoy.

Bo, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

My prescriber reduced me and we have held there for fourteen months. It has been the most uneventful fourteen months of my adult life and I am not complaining.

What changed in maintenance for me was the questions. They stopped being about symptoms and started being about how long, and what happens next, and nobody has a very good answer to either.

What I would add is that this circle has a long archive of people at exactly this stage, and reading the older threads is often more use than a new one.

Maintenance is where I finally had to deal with things the earlier stages had let me postpone. That was harder than any of the physical adjustment.
