What a certificate of analysis actually proves about your vial Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

I have read the paper and I am not sure I have understood it.

I would like to know what the best single piece of human evidence is, because I suspect the honest answer is thinner than the discussion suggests.

Everything discussed in this circle is research-use-only material and is not approved for use in a person, and my question is about the evidence rather than about use.

I have a document in front of me and I can read every line of it and I still cannot tell what it proves.

Happy to be told I have misread it. That would be the most useful possible outcome of this post.

Something worth knowing: certificates carry different things. The ones worth having name the method and the column, not just a percentage.

I found the questions list on the reference pages more useful than any of the prose, because it gave me something to actually do.

A standing request in this circle: when you bring a paper, say what the methods section actually did. It is the part everybody skips and the part that decides what the paper is worth.

The independent testing services people use here are Janoshik, Medutest, PeptideMeter and VendorInvestigate, and commissioning your own is the only result you commissioned.

What I found useful was that our pages set out what can be checked next to what cannot, rather than giving a score and leaving it there.

Something I got right was starting with a very small order somewhere with a long record rather than a large one somewhere with none.

Reading Sindri, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

My rule is that if I cannot get a lot-specific document, I do not proceed. That has never once been a problem with the suppliers that have pages here.

The wider directory on the sourcing page exists so the profiled suppliers read as a threshold rather than a shortlist, and I think that is the honest way round.

I am adding this thread to the circle's resources. The distinction between what a mechanism suggests and what an outcome shows is the one this circle exists to keep, and it is worth having written down somewhere findable.

What I found is that a supplier with hundreds of independent results behind it is a genuinely different proposition from one with four, and the difference is not marketing.
