Plateau plus a dose increase that did nothing

Plateau plus a dose increase that did nothing Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

I have been reading here for a few weeks and have not posted, so this is me posting.

I nearly did not post this because it feels like a small thing to be stuck on. It has taken up most of my thinking for a month, so apparently it is not small to me.

I have read the guides here, which were more useful than anything else I have found, and I still have a question about the timing that they do not cover.

I will report back either way, because other people's follow-ups have helped me more than their questions.

My prescriber was completely unbothered by mine, which annoyed me at the time and turned out to be the correct response. She said bodies do this and asked me to come back in eight weeks.

Adding a marker so the thread does not lose it: when the same practical thing gets named twice by two people who have never met, that is usually the sentence a newcomer needs, and it is rarely the one at the top.

Romy, I have been where you are and I would rather say so than stay quiet.

I found that keeping a two-line diary through a plateau was the only way to see that anything at all was happening. From inside the week it looked like nothing.

Something I had to unlearn: a plateau is not evidence that I did something wrong. I spent six weeks auditing my own behaviour for a mistake that was not there.

Bruno said something I want to sit with for a second.

Mine broke without me changing anything. I had changed four things by then, obviously, so I have no idea which of them did it, and I suspect none of them did.

What helped was giving the flat stretch a job. I used mine to sort out sleep, which had been quietly terrible for a year and had nothing to do with any of this.

You have described the bit that nobody warns you about.

Building on what Tiernan wrote rather than answering the original question.

The most useful thing anybody said to me during mine was that maintaining is not nothing. It sounds obvious and it did not feel obvious at the time.

Honest experience: mine did not break. It became the level I stayed at, and after about four months I stopped calling it a plateau and started calling it where I live.

Pola, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

Every plateau thread here has somebody saying theirs lasted longer than they thought possible and then ended. I did not believe them. They were right.

Reading Sunniva, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

I am eight weeks into one now and reading this thread because I need to hear that other people got through theirs. That is all. No question attached.

I stopped weighing anything during mine, entirely, for three months. It was the single kindest decision I made that year and my prescriber was fine with it.

I would have written the same thing a year ago, word for word.

The bit that was hardest to say out loud was that I felt cheated. Not sad, not discouraged. Cheated. It helped enormously to name it accurately.

The second flat stretch was much easier than the first, purely because I had already survived one and knew the shape of it.

Coming back to what Lando wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

My flat stretch coincided with a genuinely difficult period at work, and I now think the two were related in ways I will never be able to separate out.

What Lando described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

If you are in one, the thing I would ask is whether you are still doing the things that were helping before it started. I quietly stopped several of mine and only noticed in hindsight.

Adding a note rather than an answer: the guides cover the practical side of this stage well, and the thing this thread is doing that the guides cannot is keeping somebody company.

Somebody here described the plateau as the part where you find out whether you are doing this for a number or for a life, and that landed harder than I wanted it to.
