A question rather than an update: Reading SELECT as someone with diabetes and heart disease

Bringing this here rather than to the general circle because the specifics change the answer.

Nobody in my life has this combination and I have never met anybody who does, which is most of why I am writing it here.

I have written out my results as a series rather than as single figures, because the trend is where my question actually lives.

Any experience from somebody with the same combination would be worth a great deal to me.

Coming back after my annual review to say everything was steady, nothing needed changing, and the appointment lasted eleven minutes and was pleasant.

Nine minutes twice a year is not enough to cover this and I stopped pretending it was. I bring a printed page now and we get through four times as much.

I am going to gently discourage anybody from adjusting anything on the basis of this thread. Describing is welcome; instructing is not.

Not a solution, just company.

Reading Kez, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

The long game is the actual subject. Everything I have got right came from doing something small consistently rather than something large for six weeks.

I had to have a proper conversation about my other medications, because a couple of them needed reviewing once things started changing. Do not leave that to chance.

My monitor showed the shape of my day in a way that no periodic test ever had, and that was the thing that changed what I actually did.

Gently disagreeing with Gus, or rather adding the other half of it.

Something I did not expect: the appointments got easier because I had something to bring to them. Before, I was being told; now, we are discussing.

What helped was asking my nurse what she would want to see in six months, and then organising the six months around that rather than around vague improvement.

Building on what Florrie wrote rather than answering the original question.

I have had this for eleven years and the last two have been the most straightforward, and the difference is mostly that somebody finally explained the mechanism to me.

My most useful habit is a single line a day. Not detailed, not analytical. One line, and after a year it is the best record I have of myself.

Nothing useful, just that I have been exactly here.

Reading Tressa, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

Nothing here is medical advice and with this condition especially the person who knows your bloods and your other medications is the one to ask.

What I did not anticipate was needing to re-learn things I had been told a decade ago, because the guidance had moved and nobody had mentioned it.

What I would flag is that my other conditions did not stand still while this was going on, and treating them separately worked much better than treating them as one story.

Something worth knowing: my medication review took a whole appointment of its own and was worth every minute. Two things were changed and one was stopped.

I asked what would make them want to change the plan, and having that answer meant I knew what I was watching for rather than watching everything.

Coming back to what Zoë wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

Mine has been uneventful. That is a genuinely good outcome and it makes for a boring post, which is why the boring posts matter.

Recognition rather than advice, if that is any use at all.

The hypo question is a real one if you are on certain other things, and it needed a specific conversation rather than a general reassurance.

Holding a boundary kindly: we do not compare results in this circle. A couple of replies have edged that way and I am steering us back.

This is the honest version, and the honest version is harder to write.
