What my podiatrist noticed Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

Bringing this here rather than to the general circle because the specifics change the answer.

I have written out my results as a series rather than as single figures, because the trend is where my question actually lives.

I have a specialist appointment in six weeks and I want to use it properly rather than spending it explaining background they already have.

I have had this diagnosis a long time and none of the general guidance quite fits, which is why I am asking here rather than in the wider circles.

Thank you for reading all the background. I know it is a lot and I think it changes the answer.

I have found this circle useful mostly for the appointment craft rather than the clinical side. How to ask, what to bring, what to write down.

I want to say plainly that nothing in this circle is medical advice, and with a long-standing diagnosis that matters more rather than less.

What I would flag is that my other conditions did not stand still while this was going on, and treating them separately worked much better than treating them as one story.

Gently disagreeing with Esme, or rather adding the other half of it.

Something worth knowing: my medication review took a whole appointment of its own and was worth every minute. Two things were changed and one was stopped.

I asked what would make them want to change the plan, and having that answer meant I knew what I was watching for rather than watching everything.

I would have written the same thing a year ago, word for word.

What Yannick described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

My most useful habit is a single line a day. Not detailed, not analytical. One line, and after a year it is the best record I have of myself.

The community around this condition can be quite intense about numbers, and I found this circle a relief because nobody here compares them.

I found that the nurse-led review was more thorough and more useful than the GP appointment, and it is the one I now prepare for.

Coming back to what Bethan wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

What I got wrong was chasing individual readings. The trend over three months was the only thing that ever meant anything.

My numbers moved over about five months and my GP was noticeably pleased, which after years of slightly tense appointments was a strange and good experience.

Building on what Ronan wrote rather than answering the original question.

What I would say is get clear on what is being measured and what the target is, because I spent two years watching a figure I had misunderstood.

Coming back after my annual review to say everything was steady, nothing needed changing, and the appointment lasted eleven minutes and was pleasant.

Nine minutes twice a year is not enough to cover this and I stopped pretending it was. I bring a printed page now and we get through four times as much.

My monitor showed the shape of my day in a way that no periodic test ever had, and that was the thing that changed what I actually did.

Something I did not expect: the appointments got easier because I had something to bring to them. Before, I was being told; now, we are discussing.

Picking up Oskar’s point rather than starting a new one.

The long game is the actual subject. Everything I have got right came from doing something small consistently rather than something large for six weeks.

A standing note for this circle: if your experience of this has been uneventful, please say so. Threads about long-standing conditions skew hard towards difficulty, and the ordinary accounts are the ones nobody posts and everybody needs.

Picking up Mira’s point rather than starting a new one.

Mine has been uneventful. That is a genuinely good outcome and it makes for a boring post, which is why the boring posts matter.
