Something I have been sitting with: What I would tell a first-year starting this Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

Anyone else navigating this? I feel as though every piece of advice I read was written for someone with a completely different week.

I have a specific situation coming up and I would like to plan for it properly rather than improvising on the day, which is what I did last time.

I have a plan for the ordinary weeks and no plan at all for the unusual ones, and the unusual ones are where everything has gone wrong.

If anybody has an arrangement that works and is willing to write it out, I would be very grateful.

I would gently say that if cost is about to make you stop, please have the conversation before you stop rather than after.

Gently: nobody needs to justify the shape of their week here, including the members whose weeks have no shape at all.

Something I got right was keeping a small buffer, built up slowly, so that a delay or an unexpected cost did not stop everything.

My experience is that this is doable on very little and that it requires more planning than anybody with money would need.

Eating well on very little was already my situation before any of this, and the appetite change actually made the money side easier.

Reading Bell A, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

The travel to appointments was more of a barrier than the appointments. I moved to phone reviews and it solved it.

Dara — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

What I would say is ask about every reduction and scheme that exists. Nobody tells you and several of them applied to me.

I found the cost conversation with my prescriber embarrassing and it produced a practical alternative I had not known about.

What Hettie described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

I have found the check-ins here better than the circles for me, because two lines fit in a day that has no room in it.

Stepping in to say that asking for help with logistics is not a smaller kind of asking. It is most of what makes this sustainable.

Picking up Tiernan’s point rather than starting a new one.

Coming back at the end of my second year to say I managed it, it was tight throughout, and it was entirely possible.
