A question rather than an update: Cheap protein that is actually edible

Anyone else navigating this? I feel as though every piece of advice I read was written for someone with a completely different week.

The arrangements are the hard bit for me. Nothing medical has been difficult; the organising has been relentless.

What I am after is the version of this that works when nobody is helping, because that is my situation and most accounts assume otherwise.

My household has adjusted to about half of this and the other half is causing small daily friction that I have not known how to raise.

Thanks in advance. Practical detail welcome, however dull — the duller the better, honestly.

My deadlines and my difficult weeks collided once and I had to be honest with a tutor, which was frightening and completely fine.

Building on what Dash wrote rather than answering the original question.

The thing I underestimated was how much energy the logistics take when you have no slack in your week at all.

Two things, both boring. Nobody here can tell you what to do about your week. And describing your own week is genuinely useful to somebody planning theirs.

What I would say to somebody starting is that there is no shame in the cheap version of anything. It works or it does not, and mine works.

My storage question in a house with five people and one fridge got answered here in about twenty minutes, practically, by somebody in the same position.

Sitting with you on this one.

Olly — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

Something that helped was talking to the pharmacy about timing so that nothing ever ran out at a moment I could not afford.

I found that being organised was the substitute for being able to throw money at problems, and it worked most of the time.

Reading Olly, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

Nothing here sells anything and nothing here takes a commission, and on the money side of this that matters more than usual.

What helped most was one member here who had done this on a similar budget and simply told me the practical order to do things in.

Shade said something I want to sit with for a second.

I have found the check-ins here better than the circles for me, because two lines fit in a day that has no room in it.

The bit nobody mentions is how much of this assumes you can take a phone call during working hours. I could not, for a year.

What surprised me was how much support was available once I actually asked. I had spent a year assuming there was none.

Bea has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

Something practical: everything I need fits in one small bag, deliberately, because I have moved four times since starting.

I would gently say that if cost is about to make you stop, please have the conversation before you stop rather than after.

The holidays are the difficult part. Term-time arrangements do not survive four months at a different address.

Recognition rather than advice, if that is any use at all.

I am pleased with this thread. Practical, kind, no instructions, no comparisons. That is the whole brief.

Eating well on very little was already my situation before any of this, and the appetite change actually made the money side easier.
