Getting a prescription transferred between two cities

My experience of the health service as a student was much better once I stopped treating it as a last resort.

I would encourage anybody here to write down what things actually cost over a year. Mine was less than I had feared and knowing was worth a lot.

The bit nobody mentions is how much of this assumes you can take a phone call during working hours. I could not, for a year.

Coming back at the end of my second year to say I managed it, it was tight throughout, and it was entirely possible.

Grateful you posted rather than kept it to yourself.

What helped most was one member here who had done this on a similar budget and simply told me the practical order to do things in.

I found that being organised was the substitute for being able to throw money at problems, and it worked most of the time.

Something that helped was talking to the pharmacy about timing so that nothing ever ran out at a moment I could not afford.

What I would say is ask about every reduction and scheme that exists. Nobody tells you and several of them applied to me.

The fridge in a shared house was a genuine problem and I solved it with a small locked box and a conversation with my housemates.

My experience is that this is doable on very little and that it requires more planning than anybody with money would need.

The travel to appointments was more of a barrier than the appointments. I moved to phone reviews and it solved it.
