Something I have been sitting with: Expat pharmacy roulette in the Gulf Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

Regional question, because I have read a great deal of advice that turns out to be true in one country only.

I have read the guides and they are good, and they are necessarily general, and my question is entirely about local specifics.

I am some distance from anywhere and every arrangement I have made is shaped by that, and most of what is written assumes otherwise.

No rush. Everything here takes three weeks anyway.

I found the family and social side considerably harder here than the medical side, for reasons that would take a page to explain.

Two things, both boring. Nobody here knows your local arrangements better than your local pharmacy. And this thread can tell you what to ask them.

What helped was a pharmacist who spoke to my specialist directly rather than everything going through me.

Something I got right was building a relationship with one clinic rather than going wherever was convenient.

My clinic handles everything in one visit, which is efficient and means I prepare properly for each one.

Something I underestimated was the humidity as a storage factor rather than just the temperature.

Reading Nazneen, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

I found that being very specific about my situation in this circle produced much better answers than asking general questions.

What I got wrong was assuming the guidance I read applied to me. Almost none of the logistics did.

Somebody here in a neighbouring country described a completely different arrangement, and the comparison was interesting and not transferable.

Nothing here is medical advice and the arrangements vary enormously across this region, so local specifics matter more than usual.
