A question rather than an update: The connection between not eating and my mood

I have been sitting on this for a month.

What I want is company rather than an answer, and I have learned that this circle is one of the few places where asking for that is not strange.

I am not in crisis and I do not want anybody worried. I am flat, and I have been flat for longer than I would like, and I am naming it here first.

No advice needed. Company would be welcome and anything else is a bonus.

The thing that helped least was being told it was probably the medication, before anybody had looked at anything else in my life.

Gently: you have apologised twice in a post where you have done nothing that requires an apology.

I would say plainly that if things have got dark, this is a thread to leave and a person to ring. We are company and we are not the right help for that.

Mine improved over about five months, alongside sleep improving, and I genuinely cannot separate the two.

What helped was telling one person honestly rather than four people partially. The partial versions were exhausting and got me nothing.

Reading Bramwell, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

My prescriber asked directly about mood at every review, which I found intrusive at first and was extremely glad of later.

Bryher — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

I had a difficult autumn that had nothing to do with any of this, and disentangling that was most of the work of my second year.

Something worth knowing: my appetite change and my mood change moved together and it took a long time to work out which was leading.

My other medication needed reviewing and a pharmacist spotted something two doctors had not. Do have the interactions conversation properly.

I would have written the same thing a year ago, word for word.

I found it useful to separate what I could raise with a prescriber from what belonged in therapy, because I had been taking everything to the wrong door.

My experience is that this is discussed far too little and I am grateful this circle exists rather than it being folded into a general one.

Building on what Pippa wrote rather than answering the original question.

What worked for me was keeping the small structures going even when they felt pointless. Getting dressed, going outside, writing two lines.

Somebody here said that a hard week does not need a cause to be legitimate, and I have carried that around for two years.

I have read this twice now. Thank you for writing it.

Tamzin said something I want to sit with for a second.

The thing I would flag is anhedonia specifically. Low mood gets asked about; not enjoying anything is a different report and worth naming.

Facilitator note: nothing in this circle is treatment and nothing here is advice. The people who know your history are the ones to speak to.

What I found was that being honest here was a rehearsal for being honest at my appointment, and the rehearsal genuinely helped.
