Telling my psychiatrist I had started this

Something I have been sitting with: Telling my psychiatrist I had started this Not looking for advice so much as other people's experience.

Not asking anyone to fix this. Mostly saying it out loud somewhere it will be read kindly.

I have read a great deal about the physical side of this and almost nothing about the part I am actually struggling with.

I do not have a question exactly. I have a thing I have noticed about myself and no idea whether it is worth mentioning to anybody.

I have spent a long time managing everybody else's feelings about this and I have not looked at my own, and that is what this post is.

I do not know how to end this properly, so I am just going to stop here and press the button.

The hardest part was that I felt I should be pleased and I was not, and the gap between those two things was itself distressing.

Something practical: I made a written list of what my early warning signs are, while I was well, and gave a copy to one person.

No advice, just company. Here if it helps.

Speaking as a facilitator: what has been described here belongs with somebody qualified rather than in a thread, and I would rather say that plainly than let us be reassuring.

My GP asked me to come back in two weeks rather than leaving it, and that follow-up was the thing that actually made a difference.

What I found was that being honest here was a rehearsal for being honest at my appointment, and the rehearsal genuinely helped.

Nazneen has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

I had to accept that some of this was seasonal and would have happened regardless, and that acceptance stopped me looking for a cause that was not there.

The thing I would flag is anhedonia specifically. Low mood gets asked about; not enjoying anything is a different report and worth naming.

What worked for me was keeping the small structures going even when they felt pointless. Getting dressed, going outside, writing two lines.

Somebody here said that a hard week does not need a cause to be legitimate, and I have carried that around for two years.

My experience is that this is discussed far too little and I am grateful this circle exists rather than it being folded into a general one.

I found it useful to separate what I could raise with a prescriber from what belonged in therapy, because I had been taking everything to the wrong door.

Building on what Bramwell wrote rather than answering the original question.

The support around me improved dramatically once I told people what would actually help, rather than expecting them to guess.

Nothing here is medical advice and on this subject that matters. If you are struggling, please talk to somebody qualified, and our support resources page lists the kinds of service worth finding.

Facilitator note: this is a circle for saying things out loud, and there is no obligation on anybody to act on what they say here.

The bit in the middle is the bit I needed to read.
