A question rather than an update: Being the supportive one and getting tired

Practical question, and possibly a silly one.

I would rather hear one person's actual arrangement in detail than five general suggestions, if anybody is willing to write theirs out.

The social side of this is harder for me than any of the logistics, and I have not found anywhere else where that is discussed practically.

Every piece of advice I read appears to have been written for somebody with a completely different week from mine, so I am asking people whose weeks look like this.

Thank you. This circle has solved four practical problems for me already and I am hoping for a fifth.

I would say pick one person to be honest with completely. Mine was my brother and having one person who knows everything has been enough.

Picking up Tegan’s point rather than starting a new one.

The friction in our house was almost entirely about the changed evening routine rather than about anything medical.

My body changed how it works and the household did not get a memo. Working that out took about a year of small friction.

Somebody here said that you do not owe anybody an explanation, including people who love you, and I have leaned on that repeatedly.

I have nothing to add and I did not want to leave it unanswered.

Omar has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

My partner came to a family event with a prepared subject change and deployed it three times, and it was the kindest thing.

What I did not anticipate was how much better things got once I stopped managing everybody's feelings about it as well as my own.

What helped was giving my partner something to read, so that the explaining was not all coming from me at eleven at night.

My children noticed before my partner did, which says something I am still thinking about.

Something I did not expect was how much of our relationship had been organised around food, and how much we had to rebuild.

Reading Ruaridh, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

He does the injection, which was his idea, and it turned out to be a way for him to be part of something he had felt excluded from.

My partner was frightened for me, which came out as disapproval, and it took a long time to hear it as the first thing.

I asked him to stop commenting, once, clearly, and he did, and I had spent four months building up to a two-minute conversation.

Coming back to what Tegan wrote further up, because it is the bit I keep thinking about.

We used to eat together in a particular way and that changed, and neither of us said anything about it for months.

What helped was one honest conversation where I said what I actually needed rather than expecting him to notice.

Coming back to say we are fine, that it took about eighteen months, and that the conversation I dreaded most was the one that fixed it.

What Rufus described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

My family's reaction was the hardest part and I have had to accept that some of them are not going to come round.

I am going to redirect us back to the original poster, who has not had a chance to answer any of the questions put to them.

My mother cooks as an act of love and my appetite changing felt to her like a rejection, and naming that out loud helped both of us.
