Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: What a twenty-year horizon might mean, and what nobody knows

The logistics of this are defeating me more than the medicine is.

What I am after is the version of this that works when nobody is helping, because that is my situation and most accounts assume otherwise.

I have tried three arrangements and none of them has survived a difficult week, which suggests I am designing for good weeks.

Twenty is the honest number. I nearly rounded it in the title and then decided that rounding is how these things stop being useful to anybody.

If anybody has an arrangement that works and is willing to write it out, I would be very grateful.

What I would say to somebody my age starting is to find one adult who knows. Any adult. It makes a difference.

What Linnea described happened to me too, in a slightly different order.

My honest report is that I am doing well, that it has been mostly boring, and that the boring part is the part I value.

The thing I would flag to anybody young here is that the internet is very loud on this subject and most of it is selling something.

What helped was one friend who knows everything, which took me eight months to arrange and has been worth all of it.

Picking up Torrin’s point rather than starting a new one.

I found the social side hardest. Everybody eating and drinking constantly and no interest in why I was not.
