Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: What my practice nurse checks every six months

The logistics of this are defeating me more than the medicine is.

My household has adjusted to about half of this and the other half is causing small daily friction that I have not known how to raise.

I have a plan for the ordinary weeks and no plan at all for the unusual ones, and the unusual ones are where everything has gone wrong.

Putting the figure in the title felt slightly dramatic, and then I counted, and six months is simply what it is.

I will come back and say what I settled on, in case it is useful to the next person asking this.

My experience is that this has been straightforward and that it needed more careful setting up than it would have at forty.

Reading Bertrand, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

The falls conversation was worth having explicitly, and it produced a practical set of things I would not have thought of.

Gently disagreeing with Bertrand, or rather adding the other half of it.

I found the online material almost entirely aimed at people thirty years younger, which is why this circle matters to me.

Stepping in to say what happens here when somebody describes a very tight situation: they get answered without a trace of judgement. That is not luck, it is the habit of the room, and it is worth protecting.

My hearing and my eyesight mean appointments are harder work, and asking for things in writing has solved most of that.

Something I did not expect was how much better my knees have been, which was not what I was aiming at and is what I most appreciate.

I went considerably slower than the schedule, agreed, and it has been entirely uneventful over two years.

Gently disagreeing with Niko, or rather adding the other half of it.

What I would flag is that muscle matters more now than it did at forty, and protecting it is worth more attention than anything else.

I found this circle because everywhere else assumed I was thirty-five and had never had a hip replaced.

Well said, and thank you for taking the time over it.

I asked directly what the evidence looked like for people my age and got an honest answer about how thin it is, and I respected that.

Thank you for writing this down. It helped.

Stepping in to say that a household adjusting slowly is not a household failing. Several replies have been quite hard on people who are simply taking time.

Piet, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

The pharmacist has been the most useful person in this whole business, and I would say that to anybody at my stage.
