Starting a thread on this because it keeps coming up in ones and twos: A knee replacement and restarting afterwards

The logistics of this are defeating me more than the medicine is.

The thing I have not been able to find anywhere is how people manage this when the week has no fixed shape at all.

What I am after is the version of this that works when nobody is helping, because that is my situation and most accounts assume otherwise.

I would like to know what other people say when asked, because my current answer is too long and invites more questions.

Thank you. This circle has solved four practical problems for me already and I am hoping for a fifth.

My experience is that this has been straightforward and that it needed more careful setting up than it would have at forty.

The falls conversation was worth having explicitly, and it produced a practical set of things I would not have thought of.

I found the online material almost entirely aimed at people thirty years younger, which is why this circle matters to me.

I am pleased with this thread. Practical, kind, no instructions, no comparisons. That is the whole brief.

Thank you for the update. Threads that stop are the worst kind.

What I got right was bringing my daughter to the first appointment, because two sets of ears is worth a great deal in nine minutes.

I would gently say do not accept everything being attributed to age. Mine was, twice, and something specific was found both times.

Bertrand said something I want to sit with for a second.

Somebody here said that the aim at our stage is capability rather than anything else, and I have used that framing at two appointments since.

The pharmacist has been the most useful person in this whole business, and I would say that to anybody at my stage.

My balance and my grip are the two things I watch, and both have improved, and neither of them is on any form anybody gives me.

Bone health was my first question and I had to ask for it. It was not offered and it was entirely reasonable to want.

Ottilie has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

Strength work has mattered more to me at this stage than anything else, and everybody I have spoken to has said the same.

Reading Olly, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

My medication list is long and getting a proper review of all of it together was the most useful appointment of the last three years.

What I found is that the guidance assumes a body with more margin, and going slowly was not caution, it was the sensible plan.

I have read this twice now. Thank you for writing it.

Something practical: I take a written list of everything I take to every appointment, because nobody's system has it right.

What I would flag is that muscle matters more now than it did at forty, and protecting it is worth more attention than anything else.

Brim has already said most of this and I want to add the one part that was different for me.

I went considerably slower than the schedule, agreed, and it has been entirely uneventful over two years.

Osman said something I want to sit with for a second.

Something I did not expect was how much better my knees have been, which was not what I was aiming at and is what I most appreciate.

Noticing that the thread has answered the question and then kept going, which is fine, and I want the answer not to get buried.

Ren, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

I asked directly what the evidence looked like for people my age and got an honest answer about how thin it is, and I respected that.
